What is scalp micropigmentation?

Scalp Micropigmentation is sometimes also referred to as a scalp tattoo or hair tattoo. A
non-invasive treatment, scalp micropigmentation uses detailed micro-needles to deposit
pigment into the scalp. The result creates the appearance of tiny hair follicles or short
hair stubble. If your hair is starting to thin, recede, or if you are completely bald, we can
give you the look of thicker and fuller hair, or a close shaved haircut.

What is the difference between scalp micropigmentation and traditional tattooing?

There are three primary distinctions between scalp micropigmentation and tattooing:

1. We deposit pigment into the dermis at a shallower depth than tattoos, only about

2. We are only making small micro dots using the pointillism technique, not shading or
drawing lines.

3. We only use Color Theory to match your hair color. As a result, when it heals, it will
not break down into different colors or appear overly saturated.

Is Scalp Micropigmentation permanent?

Is Scalp Micropigmentation permanent?
Permanent cosmetics, sometimes known as permanent makeup, includes scalp micropigmentation. This procedure normally lasts 3-5 years and is frequently referred to
as a cosmetic hair or scalp tattoo. After that, a client could notice a little fading, in which case they might return for a fast touch-up.

Although this cosmetic solution won’t wash off, it can be adjusted over time. We always
advise scheduling a consultation with Nico, a master SMP artist, to go over your
treatment options.

How do I choose a hairline?

If you are unsure about what style or type of hairline will suit you, Nico will be happy to advise you based on his artistic knowledge of how to match a hairline to a person’s
head shape and age. You can also tweak and adjust the hairline during your sessions to achieve the best possible result.

Can Scalp Micropigmentation camouflage my transplant scar?

Yes! Transplant and surgical scars can be greatly improved by skillfully concealing them. Nico will replicate tiny hair follicles within the scarring, blending the color around
the scarring area.

Is Scalp micropigmentation for long hair?

Scalp micropigmentation is used to fill thinning areas in long hair to create the illusion of density. We have the ability to add thickness to a variety of places, including the crown and where hair is separating. We advise keeping your hair short if you’re utilizing scalp micropigmentation to restore your hairline for a more well-balanced appearance.

If I have hair left, can I leave it long?

Some clients can keep their hair longer depending on the pattern and extent of their
thinning hair. Scalp pigmentation can help thicken areas, allowing less of the scalp to
show through. However, if the client has a strong pattern of hair loss or simply does not
have a lot of hair density left, it is recommended that they crop it shorter.

Will the result look natural?

Absolutely! The final result of scalp micropigmentation performed by a trained
professional, such as Nico’s SMP and Hair Studio, (LINK to home page) is completely
undetectable. You will appear to have a natural full head of hair.

Will Scalp Micropigmentation work with gray hair?

Scalp micropigmentation is beneficial for people with gray hair. The majority of clients are advised to have their hair trimmed short or buzzed. Gray hair does not seem gray
when worn this way since the hair root itself is darker. When hair grows longer, gray only becomes visible. The second method involves the use of a gray-scale pigment that can be shaded to match lighter hair tones. Just to mix in with the existing gray hairs, we merely generate a lighter dilution.

If I am lighter or darker skin tone will this treatment still look good?

Yes! We can adapt the color of our pigment to a variety of skin tones. Scalp micropigmentation can benefit people of all races, including Caucasians, African Americans, Hispanics, Asians, and Pacific Islanders, among many others.

Will Scalp Micropigmentation Grow My Hair Back

No, a scalp micropigmentation procedure won’t make your hair grow again. Yet, the
SMP procedure will give you the appearance of thicker, denser hair or a buzzcut. If you
decide on the latter, we advise keeping your hair short to achieve the most natural

How long does scalp micropigmentation take?

The scalp micropigmentation treatment typically requires 2-4 sessions to complete, with each session lasting 2-4 hours, depending on your degree of hair loss. These
treatments are usually spaced about 10-20 days (2 weeks) apart. If you have Alpecia Areata Totalis or need scar camouflage work, it may take longer or require additional

How long do the results last?

This treatment is usually effective for 3-5 years. After that time, a client may notice some minor fading (no color change), in which case they can return for a quick touch-up. This cosmetic solution will not wash off but can be adjusted over time. To discuss your treatment options, we always recommend meeting with Nico, a master SMP artist.

Do I need to take time off work?

Scalp micropigmentation is a non-invasive procedure that requires no downtime. In most cases, you will not need to take time off from work, school, or other obligations. It is common to notice slight redness on the scalp for 2-3 days following treatment. This redness fades quickly, and most clients return to work either immediately or within a few
days. Clients are also permitted to wear hats or headgear if they so desire.

Can I wear a hat after my scalp micropigmentation treatment?

After your scalp micropigmentation treatment is finished, you may wear a hat or a skullcap. However, we hope you will not be wearing them as frequently!

What equipment is used for a scalp micropigmentation procedure?

The tools used for scalp treatments are referred to as “permanent cosmetic” or “micropigmentation” tools. There are many various types and styles, and the tools used for the procedure include a handpiece, a disposable microneedle, and a digital power source. In order to carefully insert the deposits at the right depth in the skin, most scalp micropigmentation professionals employ equipment that is distinct from that used by ordinary tattoo artists.

Why can't I see my scalp micropigmentation treatment after a week?

Your treatment will fade after the first scalp micropigmentation session, which is completely normal. We add more density in the second and third sessions to create a fuller look. Each person’s pigment retention varies, and some may notice more fading than others.

Will it change color like tattoos?

No. Scalp micropigmentation is a type of permanent cosmetics, but unlike tattoo ink, the pigment is intended to match the color spectrum of short hair. The pigment contains no additional colorants or additives and will only lighten over time, NOT discolor. Scalp micropigmentation also uses different equipment than traditional tattooing, with the needle and machine specifically designed for scalp micropigmentation.

Can I still use Propecia and/or Rogaine after my treatment?

Clients can use Propecia before, during, and after their scalp pigmentation procedure. Rogaine (topical minoxidil) should be avoided during treatment and for 30 days after the last session. This is to ensure that the pigment heals and settles properly without interference from the chemicals found in Rogaine foam.

How long until I can scrub, shampoo, or shave the SMP treatment area?

Scrubbing, shampooing, or shaving over the treated area is not recommended for 4-5
days after your scalp micropigmentation treatment.

How long must I wait after scalp micropigmentation treatment to vigorously exercise?

After your scalp micropigmentation procedure, we advise refraining from strenuous exercise or excessive perspiration for 4-5 days.

Can I go in the pool, sauna, or steam room after my scalp micropigmentation treatment?

We recommend avoiding chlorinated pools, saunas, steam rooms, and tanning beds for at least 28 days after your final scalp micropigmentation session.

I see many scalp micropigmentation providers on the internet. How do I choose the right one?

Scalp micropigmentation, also called hairline tattoos or scalp tattoos, has grown dramatically in recent years. This means more clinics, but it also means prospective
patients must do their homework! Look for clinics and technicians who have been in business for a few years, have a diverse and dynamic portfolio of results, and can assist
you with any questions you may have. If you are unsure, it is always a good idea to schedule an in-person or a video call consultation in order to eliminate those providers
with whom you simply do not feel comfortable.

I’ve studied under 10 world renown SMP artists and have had 100% satisfaction from all
of my SMP clients.

Do you charge for a consultation?

We offer a no-obligation consultation to anyone interested in learning more about how scalp micropigmentation can help with hair loss. However, we require a $50 deposit
made with either a credit card or on your debit card to secure the appointment. The deposit is returned when you arrive for your appointment. If you cannot make your
appointment, you must call 12 hours in advance to cancel it. A no call/no show forfeits your $50.

What about haircut appointments. Do you charge for no shows/no calls?

Yes, that time has been reserved for you. If you cannot make your appointment, you must call 12 hours in advance, or you will be charged a no show fee for the service you

What’s your SMP style?

I specialize in hyper realistic hairlines, or a more natural look. To achieve that look, I leave a little bit of space in between the follicles so you can see the scalp. This makes it
look more natural. Click here for my portfolio. (LINK to either the HOME page or Nico’s portfolio.)

How painful is SMP?

On a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the most painful, it’s about a 2 or 3. It’s really not bad
at all.

Who could most benefit from scalp micropigmentation?

SMP is for men and women who have thinning or full-blown alopecia. I also do beard fill-ins.

Do I need to shave or buzz down before the procedure?

Usually, we do recommend you buzz down or shave before procedure. This allows me to blend the work with the hair stubbles. The more blended the SMP treatment is with
your hair, the more natural it looks.

Should I go darker with my SMP color so it will last longer?

I don’t recommend it. It will look good for about 6 months. Then it’s going to look awful because the pigment impressions will end up sliding and connecting with each other. Essentially, the color will merge.

Do you use the standard SMP needles?

No. I wasn’t satisfied with the SMP needles on the market. So, I created my own. These needles are made with the highest quality steel available and medical grade plastic.
They will not leak toxins. Learn more about my needles here. (LINK to SMP Needles.)
